The Sunday Taste Roundup

My little Blue Swedish duck began laying today…sniff, sniff…her first egg! And yes, for those of you who have never tried a duck egg, they really ARE that yellow, and the taste is beyond rich and silky. Some will say they dislike duck eggs because they feel they are tough, I’ve found that the secret is to not cook them as long as you would a chicken egg. Because they are so heavy on the protein side and so dense there is a tendency to over cook them. We offer organic duck eggs on our farm for $5.00 per dozen and they are worth every penny…you will notice a difference in everything you cook with them. I refuse to make pasta without them!

Because Sunday is football day and I almost always end up working, I try to have some fun easy to pick at food ready for my husband and daughter…that way they don’t need me if I get busy. I decided to make them Chicken Nuggets, that way my husband also has something for his lunch. I used the Parmesan Chicken recipe from Simply Recipes with a few changes. I used a blend of fresh parsley, Basil, Thyme and Oregano instead of the Italian Seasoning and used Garlic Powder instead of Garlic Salt and upped the salt to 1/2 teaspoon.

I love my peaceful Sunday morning browse through the food blogs, you find soooo much interesting stuff!

How’s this one?

The OC’s most expensive Martini…yeah…

Gorgeous huh?

And this Crab pasta from NoobCook sounds so good!

And this Spicy Curry Noodle Soup looked amazing, but I am so sick right now all I could muster was good old fashioned Miso Soup for my kid…

But on to some serious things….

I’m not sure if you have heard of Stone Soup or not, but I want to take a second and talk about one man’s interpretation and how it earned him a National Humanitarian Award.

Eliot Fiks and his partner Stacey Gould of Whole In The Wall restaurant in Binghamton have been serving up their Stone Soup since 1995. Please click here to read about Stone Soup and how you can help

If you are local to the Southern Tier take a trip down to Whole In The Wall and tell them what an awesome job they have been doing…they would love to hear it! And while you are there, pick up some of their INCREDIBLE pesto and have a Garlic Roll…trust me, you want the Garlic Roll!

Have a great Sunday, and do something delicious!

Kang…loved your site! I’ve bookmarked it and will be popping in often. And I think your photos are just fine :)

I struggle because the best light in the house doesn’t always line up with my cooking schedule and that makes for some interesting situations. I’ve photographed food on my couch, on my coffee table, on my desk on my front porch, even outside my barns. I miss having a studio setup, but I’m learning to adapt!
